Jack's Backyard
If
you've been here before, thanks for coming back. You may notice some
changes. For those of you who are first time visitors.... What changes? Playground equipment is fun to make
and a rewarding
way to make money. When I pull up with a new swing set, the look on
a kids
face is hard to beat. Who wouldn't like being Santa a couple
of months a year?
Despite the fact
that I'm happy building kids dreams, I noticed a
ton of scrap lumber piling up. I started to really look around and realized
how much I threw away. How much others threw away. Somehow over the last two
years I've evolved into some sort of wood recycling freak... "Don't throw
that away! Don't burn that! Give it to me!" Well, it's obvious... I
couldn't store everything I found! I had to make things! I made furniture
from pallets. I made beds from wood found on trash day. I made anything from
whatever I found that was natural wood. My friends were close to an
intervention, saying my passion was becoming an obsession. That was before
they saw what I had made at home. Needless to say, they were very impressed
and were promptly sucked into the black hole of saving everything made of
wood.
Most wood products you see on this site, other than the redwood forts and
porch swings, are
made from reclaimed wood. Wood I found on the side of the road, wood from
other manufacturers warranty parts, wood from my scrap pile.
Over
time I will begin to add things that can be made from others peoples' trash.
If you have an old barn or an old wood pile and want to make shelves or a
new cabinet, I think you might be surprised. In the meantime take a look
around, be patient while we undergo these changes, and don't throw away
anything wood!
